After nearly two decades of not eating snags, Bri MacLean, an autistic mum of two, recognized that a change was necessary when she observed her children, who are on the autism spectrum disorder, struggling to eat traditional market sausages. This led to the creation of SensorySnags. Bri envisioned innovative food products that featured a smooth texture, great taste, and no fat, gristle, or filler, and then she got to work on her sensory friendly sausage.
We have joined forces with the fantastic team at Angle Vale Wholesale Meats to create Bris vision of SensorySnags, a sensory friendly sausage designed with individuals on the autism spectrum disorder in mind. Bri provided her “vision,” while Fiona, Chris, and the team brought it to life. Together, they have created an innovative food product they’re immensely proud of.

Bri is born and bred in South Australia; originally from Port Lincoln, she relocated to Adelaide almost twenty years ago for love. Marriage to Aaron and two kids quickly followed. Tahli was born in 2012 and Tyson in 2015. Both kids were diagnosed with level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder, combined type ADD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety, and a rare genetic condition called PTEN Hamartoma Tumour Syndrome. Faced with multiple challenges daily that often brought her to tears, Bri decided to make a positive impact on the world on behalf of her kids after lifesaving surgery in 2024. The first step in this journey? Creating innovative food products, starting with sensory friendly sausages, to help children with disabilities enjoy meals despite their sensory challenges or aversions.
We want food to be as smooth as possible, taste great, be visually pleasing, and present uniformly. For individuals with autism spectrum disorder, especially those with sensory challenges, having routine and the knowledge that what they’re consuming will taste the same is essential. This is why we focus on innovative food products like sensory friendly sausage that meet these needs.
Well why not?! After Bri saw her autistic daughter gagging on market bought sausages and then saying, 'mum they’ve got bits in them,' SensorySnags was born in Bris head but it counts! This innovative food product aims to provide sensory friendly sausage options for children on the autism spectrum disorder.
Bri hopes to get more innovative food products out to consumers, including variations on the original SensorySnag, SensoryNugs, SensoryBurgers, and more. For too long, the needs of sensory eaters, particularly those on the autism spectrum disorder, have been dismissed by the world as a whole. This venture, however small, aims to put a stop to the silence.
